Marc Zabeau

Marc is a biotech industry veteran having pioneered world class biotech companies such as Plant Genetic Systems (a most successful plant biotech company, acquired by Bayer) and KeyGene (a leading agricultural biotech company). As a serial entrepreneur, he founded Helix in 1988 (a biotech consulting company), GenScope in 1995 (a pharmaceutical biotech company, acquired by Perkin Elmer), Methexis Genomics  in 1997 (pharmaceutical biotech) and Biolign in 2007. From 1979 to 2011 he held professor positions in biotechnology at the VUB and UGent, and from 2008 until 2012 he directed and professionalized the Technology Transfer Office at the University of Ghent and managed the Baekeland II university seed capital Fund of UGent.

Marc is currently a member of the board of directors of several start-up companies, including Trinean and Caliopa, and is also an advisory board member in several US based VC funds.

Marc holds an M.Sc. in zoology and a Ph.D. in Genetics from the University of Ghent.
